Learning Support Coordinator - Lubowa and Bunga Campus

About the role

Acorns International School (AIS) is hiring a Learning Support Coordinator for its Lubowa and Bunga campus in Kampala. The coordinator ensures that learning support is provided to students with additional needs, working with teachers, parents and Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) to give targeted support, accommodations and adaptations so students can succeed academically.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategies for identifying and assessing students with additional learning needs
• Liaise with teachers, parents and LSAs to provide targeted support
• Develop and deliver professional development for teachers on supporting students with additional needs
• Maintain records of students with additional needs and ensure their needs are reviewed regularly
• Support and guide LSAs, making sure they are trained and equipped to give high-quality support
• Work with the Curriculum Coordinator on policies and procedures for learning support
• Draft Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) and ensure they are implemented
• Plan, coordinate and run parent meetings about IEPs and track progress, involving teachers, LSAs and other stakeholders
• Interview LSAs on behalf of families and manage LSA agreements between school, LSAs and parents
• Maintain LSA records such as files, appraisals and agreements
• Schedule meetings, allocate workloads and follow up with the rest of the LSS team (secondary)
• Manage day-to-day departmental activities of the Learning Support Section

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Education, Child Psychology or a related field
• Additional qualifications in Special Education, Learning Support or a related field preferred
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in a Learning Support or Special Education role
• Experience developing strategies to identify and address additional learning needs
• Experience collaborating with teachers, parents and LSAs
• Experience providing professional development for teachers
