Machine Learning Specialist

About the role

MediLoop is seeking a Machine Learning Specialist to join its AI‑enabled health data platform team in Kampala. You will design, develop, and deploy machine learning and deep learning models that transform complex healthcare data into actionable insights for clinicians and patients.

Key responsibilities

• Explore, clean, and preprocess large, heterogeneous healthcare datasets.
• Select appropriate algorithms, train, validate, and fine‑tune models for accuracy and robustness.
• Deploy models into production, ensuring scalability, reliability, and compliance with data security standards.
• Collaborate with software engineers and product teams to integrate AI components into the unified health record system.
• Document technical approaches, conduct experiments, and contribute to continuous improvement of AI capabilities.

Required profile

• Strong foundation in computer science, data structures, algorithms, and software engineering.
• Proven experience building and deploying machine learning/deep learning models in production.
• Solid understanding of statistics and applied mathematics for model evaluation.
• Hands‑on experience with Python and modern ML frameworks.
• Familiarity with data engineering concepts, SQL/NoSQL databases, and handling both structured and unstructured data.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
