Manager – Data Governance

About the role

DFCU Bank is seeking a Manager – Data Governance to lead its data quality, maturity and compliance initiatives. Based in Kampala, the role will ensure that data across the bank is accurate, timely, complete and used to drive strategic decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Support and advance DFCU’s data quality agenda, guaranteeing data accuracy, timeliness and completeness.
• Assist the bank in reaching data maturity level 5, where insights inform decision‑making.
• Ensure compliance with data governance and privacy regulations, monitoring for breaches and leading investigations.
• Identify emerging data‑related risks and work with cross‑functional teams to mitigate them.
• Oversee the full data lifecycle—from entry to deletion—including data flow, system interactions and access rights.
• Conduct data protection impact assessments, especially with third‑party vendors.
• Establish and monitor critical data quality metrics, collaborating with business units for continuous improvement.
• Lead data‑training initiatives to build organization‑wide awareness and competency.
• Operationalise data governance and privacy policies across the bank.
• Manage data assets, appointing data stewards and ensuring accessibility and governance.
• Champion a strong data‑driven culture throughout the organization.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a business‑related field; data‑governance certifications are a plus.
• 3–5 years of experience in audit, governance, compliance or legal roles within a major financial institution.
• Experience implementing data privacy programs and understanding of risk‑management terminology in banking or related financial services.
• Knowledge of financial products, modelling and calibration concepts.
• Strong analytical mindset with the ability to translate data insights into business actions.
