Program Director, Uganda

About the role

GiveDirectly is seeking a senior leader to direct its Uganda programs. The role combines hands‑on operational oversight with strategic partnership management, reporting directly to the Country Director and acting as deputy when needed.

Key responsibilities

• Lead day‑to‑day delivery of all Uganda programs, ensuring they meet time, budget and impact targets.
• Build and maintain robust operational systems and standards for a growing portfolio of projects and funding sources.
• Identify and resolve bottlenecks, manage cross‑functional dependencies, and support senior managers with analytical insight.
• Develop and execute program scale and expansion strategies aligned with organizational goals.
• Translate funding opportunities into viable delivery plans, including timelines, resources and risk assessments.
• Integrate product, evidence and research initiatives into program design while maintaining coherence.
• Maintain program‑level risk trackers, coordinate with internal audit, safeguarding and compliance teams.
• Oversee budgeting, track budget vs. actuals, and flag financial risks to the Country Director.
• Directly manage senior managers, foster talent development and support a values‑driven culture.
• Provide day‑to‑day oversight of procurement and operations to ensure smooth delivery.

Required profile

• 10+ years of experience in non‑profit country management, program leadership or related fields with a record of increasing responsibility.
• Demonstrated ability to lead large‑scale direct‑delivery programs and manage multi‑million‑dollar budgets.
• Strong partnership and negotiation skills, including consortium management and new‑business development.
• Deep understanding of cash transfer, social safety net and poverty‑reduction policies.
• Proven stakeholder management capability, able to represent the organization at senior government and donor levels.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for senior audiences.
• High autonomy, resilience and analytical problem‑solving mindset.

What we offer

• Base salary of $99,100 per year.
• Target performance bonus of approximately 15% of base salary.
• Annual benefits stipend of $8,453.
