Psychiatric Technician

About the role

The Psychiatric Technician provides direct care and support to individuals with mental illness or developmental disabilities in psychiatric hospitals, residential facilities and similar settings. Working closely with the clinical team, the technician helps maintain a safe and therapeutic environment while assisting patients with daily activities.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor patients’ mental and physical condition throughout each shift.
• Assist with personal care, meals, hygiene and other activities of daily living.
• De‑escalate crises and respond promptly to signs of distress.
• Dispense prescribed medication under supervision and document administration.
• Implement the treatment plan created by the clinical team.
• Observe, record and report any changes in behaviour or health status.
• Collaborate with nurses, therapists and other staff to ensure coordinated care.

• Patient, steady individual who remains calm under pressure.
• Ability to set firm boundaries with compassion.
• Comfortable providing emotionally heavy, hands‑on care.
• Willingness to work unpredictable situations and shift patterns.
