Regional Regulatory Affairs & Compliance Specialist – East Africa

About the role

We are looking for a Regional Regulatory Affairs & Compliance Specialist to support our fintech platform’s growth across East Africa. You will act as the first line of defence, helping Optasia navigate regulatory changes and maintain a strong culture of ethics and compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the primary contact with regulators to manage and mitigate the impact of new regulations, reporting obligations and prudential guidelines within the regional portfolio.
• Drive horizon‑scanning activities, identify early‑warning signals of upcoming regulatory changes and disseminate relevant information to impacted teams.
• Support the Head of Regulatory Affairs & Compliance and Regulatory Compliance Managers in implementing the broader regulatory strategy.
• Continuously monitor compliance with applicable laws, regulations and prudential guidelines.
• Assist in structured assessments of regulatory compliance, evaluating risk exposure, significance and scope.
• Help implement a robust regulatory compliance governance framework, including training and awareness programmes.
• Develop marketing materials, training programmes and internal presentations to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements.
• Perform general administrative duties such as gathering internal information for regulatory responses.

Required profile

• Enthusiastic professional with a results‑driven, can‑do attitude.
• Strong interest in the micro‑finance sector and fintech environment.
• Ability to engage proactively with regulators and internal stakeholders.
• Experience in assessing regulatory risk and supporting compliance initiatives.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to create training and awareness content.
