Scientist – Silviculture

About the role

The Scientist – Silviculture will provide scientific guidance for forest governance research, ensuring rigorous methods and up‑to‑date concepts. Working within CIFOR, the role collaborates with theme leaders, mentors junior staff, and represents the institute in national and global forums.

Key responsibilities

• Provide scientific guidance ensuring research concepts and methods meet the highest standards.
• Collaborate with CIFOR theme coordinators to define and implement emerging research activities.
• Write, supervise, and contribute to peer‑reviewed publications and other scientific communications.
• Lead and supervise project capacity‑building initiatives and mentor junior scientists.
• Supervise students and staff, overseeing fieldwork in developing countries.
• Represent CIFOR in national, regional, and global forums on forest governance.
• Develop and maintain constructive partnerships with stakeholders.
• Identify and secure additional funding, leading proposal development and donor reporting.

Required profile

• PhD in a relevant discipline such as forestry, natural resource management, or social sciences.
• Proven experience in collaborative natural resource management or social‑science research.
• Demonstrated success in managing multiple project budgets and meeting financial objectives.
• Strong publication record in peer‑reviewed journals.
• Experience in resource mobilization, fundraising, and proposal development.
• Fluent spoken and written English; additional international language(s) an advantage.
