Senior Battery Engineer

About the role

Soleil Power is East Africa’s first diversified lithium‑ion battery production company, serving the region’s growing EV and ESS markets. We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Engineer to lead our team of engineers and technicians in designing and developing advanced lithium‑ion battery solutions for 2‑wheel EVs, solar EPCs and mini‑grid developers.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the engineering team in developing and optimizing lithium‑ion battery solutions for stationary energy storage and e‑mobility applications.
• Create and maintain updated CAD models for batteries under development.
• Oversee all aspects of battery prototyping, assembly and testing while ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
• Develop work plans, manage engineering staff, and ensure timely delivery of product development milestones.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and industry partners, and stay current on technology advancements.

Required profile

• University degree in materials science, chemistry, chemical engineering, electrical engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 8 years of relevant experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
• Proven project‑management and product‑development expertise in fast‑paced environments.
• Fluency in English and ability to obtain a Uganda work permit for foreign nationals.

Required skills

• Expert knowledge of lithium‑ion battery chemistry and materials.
• Battery pack design and assembly expertise (mechanical, electrical, thermal).
• High‑voltage battery systems and multi‑level battery control architecture.
• Evaluation of BMS hardware, firmware and software.
• Embedded systems development and IoT integration.
• Proficiency with CAD software such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
• Experience using battery testing tools and analytical equipment.
• Battery product certification knowledge (UN, IEC, UL).
