Sewing Machine Operator

About the role

The Sewing Machine Operator will work on‑site at our Kawaala Central workshop, operating sewing machines to stitch, alter, and repair garments according to customer measurements and design specifications. The role involves preparing fabrics, assembling pieces, performing fittings, and delivering high‑quality finished garments.

Key responsibilities

• Operate industrial and domestic sewing machines, including threading, tension adjustment and basic maintenance.
• Cut fabric, assemble garment components, stitch, hem and finish garments to meet customer specifications.
• Take accurate body measurements and translate them into pattern adjustments or alterations.
• Perform garment alterations such as resizing, zipper replacement, button fitting and seam adjustments.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area and ensure sewing equipment is in good condition.

Required profile

• Proficiency with both industrial and domestic sewing machines.
• Strong garment construction skills across a variety of fabrics.
• Attention to detail and ability to produce neat, consistent stitching.
• Good time‑management and ability to handle multiple orders while meeting deadlines.
• Prior experience in a tailoring shop or garment production environment is highly beneficial.
