Steward – Casual Workers

About the role

This part‑time steward position involves operating cleaning equipment, maintaining kitchen hygiene, and supporting food‑and‑beverage operations at a Marriott location in Kampala.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and maintain dishwashing machines, hand‑wash stations, pot‑scrubbing stations and trash compactors.
• Wash, disinfect and sanitize kitchen areas, tools, knives, equipment and store rooms.
• Receive deliveries, store perishables correctly, rotate stock and ensure clean wares are stored properly.
• Use three‑compartment sinks with detergent, rinsing and sanitising chemicals to clean dishes and silverware.
• Inspect, pull, stack cleaned items and re‑wash any that are soiled.
• Empty and maintain trash cans, dumpsters and recycling bins; break down cardboard and glass for proper disposal.
• Clean and mop all assigned department areas and follow safety, security and company policies.

Required profile

• No high school diploma or GED required.
• No prior related work experience required.
• Ability to lift, carry, push or pull objects up to 50 lb without assistance.
• Ability to stand, walk or sit for extended periods and reach overhead or below the knees.

Required skills

• Basic operation of commercial dishwashing equipment.
• Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and sanitation procedures.
