Water Engineer – Community Water & Sanitation Projects

About the role

BackgroundPartners for Community Transformation (PaCT) is seeking a Water Engineer to lead the design, construction and supervision of community water supply and sanitation systems across its operating districts in Uganda. The role combines technical engineering expertise with hands‑on field work to ensure sustainable, high‑quality water services for adolescent girls and young women.

Key responsibilities

• Design and oversee construction of boreholes, gravity‑flow schemes, rainwater harvesting systems and protected springs.
• Conduct feasibility studies, site assessments and hydrogeological surveys; prepare technical and environmental reports.
• Ensure compliance with engineering standards, environmental regulations and donor requirements.
• Supervise contractors and community‑based construction teams, and develop operation‑and‑maintenance plans.
• Collaborate with district water offices, local governments and partner organisations to strengthen WASH interventions.
• Represent PaCT in national Technical Working Groups and other sector forums.
• Prepare progress reports and documentation for donor reporting.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Water Resources Engineering, Environmental Engineering or a related field (Master’s degree is an advantage).
• Registration with a recognised engineering body is a plus.
• Minimum three years of experience designing and implementing rural water supply systems.
• Proven experience working with NGOs, development projects and local government water offices.
• Strong communication, supervision and teamwork abilities.
