Water Engineer – Community Water Systems

About the role

The Water Engineer will lead the design, implementation and supervision of community water supply and sanitation infrastructure across PaCT’s operational districts. The role requires strong technical expertise, field experience and a commitment to improving water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) outcomes for adolescent girls and young women in Uganda.

Key responsibilities

• Design and oversee construction of water supply systems, including boreholes, gravity‑flow schemes and rainwater harvesting installations.
• Conduct feasibility studies, site assessments and prepare technical reports.
• Ensure compliance with engineering standards and environmental regulations.
• Supervise contractors and community‑based construction teams.
• Develop and support operation and maintenance mechanisms for completed facilities.
• Collaborate with district water offices and partner organisations to strengthen WASH interventions.
• Represent PaCT in national Technical Working Groups and related forums.
• Prepare progress reports and documentation for donor reporting.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Water Resources Engineering, Environmental Engineering or a closely related field (Master’s degree advantageous).
• Registration with a recognised engineering body (e.g., ERB) is a plus.
• Minimum three years of proven experience in rural or small‑town water systems, including borehole projects.
• Demonstrated ability to work with local government water offices and community stakeholders.
