Youth Coach – Community Mental Health & Sports

About the role

The Youth Coach will mobilise and engage eligible young people, using sport and structured games to promote psychosocial wellbeing, resilience and life skills. The role involves delivering the Game Connect Sport for Mental Health curriculum and supporting participants through referrals and community activities.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and enrol eligible youth, maintain accurate records and support assessments.
• Facilitate youth group sessions using the approved curriculum, adapting delivery to age, context and needs.
• Use sport as an entry point to promote mental health, social connection and positive coping.
• Conduct household visits, identify barriers to participation and report findings.
• Support community engagement, mapping of referral services and economic empowerment activities.
• Ensure safeguarding, data protection and adherence to AVSI policies.

Required profile

• Minimum Diploma in Social Sciences, Community Development, Social Work, Education or related field.
• Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor and build resilience in participants.
• Experience in community work, preferably with NGOs or government.
• Experience working with refugees and host communities is desirable.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a multicultural team.
