Heavy Equipment & Concrete Batching Plant Mechanic

About the role

The Heavy Equipment & Concrete Batching Plant Mechanic will ensure the mechanical reliability of GS Group Uganda’s construction fleet and concrete production facilities. You will diagnose, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on both mobile earth‑moving equipment and stationary batch‑plant components, keeping downtime to a minimum.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain, troubleshoot and repair concrete batching systems, including aggregate bins, weigh hoppers, silos, conveyors, rollers, pulleys and gearboxes.
• Service pneumatic and hydraulic systems such as air compressors, actuators and control valves, and calibrate mixers and dispensing gates.
• Diagnose and fix mechanical, electrical and hydraulic failures on excavators, loaders, bulldozers, dump trucks and concrete transit mixers.
• Perform engine overhauls, brake replacements, transmission repairs and use electronic diagnostic tools for fault‑code analysis.
• Execute scheduled preventative‑maintenance programmes for both rolling fleet and stationary plant equipment.
• Apply Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) safety procedures and maintain accurate service logs.

Required profile

• 3–5 years of experience as a heavy‑equipment mechanic, preferably with concrete batching plant exposure.
• Physical stamina to lift up to 25 kg, work at heights and operate in outdoor construction environments.
• Valid driver’s licence; a Commercial Driver’s Licence is highly preferred.

Required skills

• Welding and oxy‑acetylene torch cutting.
• Structural fabrication and reading hydraulic/electrical schematics.
• Pneumatic and hydraulic system repair, including air compressors and actuators.
• Use of electronic diagnostic tools for fault‑code reading.
• Lockout/Tagout safety procedures.
• Computerised batching software operation.
• Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) control‑panel knowledge.
