Legal & Debt Recovery Officer

About the role

The Legal & Debt Recovery Officer will provide comprehensive legal guidance to protect the company’s interests, ensure regulatory compliance, and lead the recovery of overdue customer debts. This role is pivotal in supporting business operations within the poultry feeds manufacturing and distribution sector.

Key responsibilities

• Lead debt recovery efforts, issue demand notices, negotiate payment plans, and represent the company in court or other legal forums.
• Provide legal advice on operational and strategic decisions, interpreting laws affecting the feeds industry.
• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with suppliers, distributors, transporters, customers and service providers, maintaining a centralized contract register.
• Manage litigation and dispute resolution, coordinating with external counsel when necessary and pursuing cost‑effective outcomes.
• Monitor regulatory changes, ensure compliance with licensing requirements, and liaise with authorities.

Required profile

• Mid‑level legal professional with at least 3 years (36 months) of relevant experience.
• Strong understanding of Ugandan commercial, contract, and debt recovery law.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively with finance, sales and senior management.
• Excellent analytical and negotiation skills.
