METOC Observer

About the role

Amentum is looking for a METOC Observer to provide continuous meteorological and oceanographic support for a U.S. Navy program. The position is based in Kampala, Kamwokya, and requires 24/7 vigilance to ensure accurate weather monitoring for operational readiness.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver round‑the‑clock METOC observation support at the assigned site.
• Operate, maintain, and calibrate weather monitoring and observation equipment according to established protocols.
• Collect, document, and analyse synoptic and special meteorological and oceanographic data.
• Produce timely weather‑related reports and communicate updates to relevant stakeholders.
• Enter and process data using dedicated weather computer systems.
• Troubleshoot minor equipment issues or coordinate escalation for technical problems.
• Ensure all observations and reports comply with U.S. Navy standards and implementation instructions.
• Perform additional duties consistent with the role as required.

Required profile

• 1‑3 years of experience in meteorology, oceanography, or a related field.
• High school diploma or equivalent with basic computer proficiency.
• Ability to operate weather observation equipment and manage observation programs.
• Corrected visual acuity of 20/20.
• Fluent written and spoken English.
• Valid passport (minimum one‑year validity) and ability to obtain required visas.
• Pass contract medical requirements and maintain necessary facility credentials.
