Elevator Mechanic

About the role

The Elevator Mechanic will ensure the safe, reliable operation of embassy elevators through routine maintenance, repairs, and compliance with certification standards. Reporting to the Elevator Supervisor, you will work on mechanical and electrical systems in a fast‑paced, safety‑focused environment.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a safe workplace and prioritize safety in all tasks.
• Diagnose and repair faults in brakes, motors, switches, and control systems using test equipment.
• Disassemble defective units and replace parts such as locks, gears, cables, and safety devices.
• Lubricate bearings and other components to reduce friction.
• Install or repair transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, heating units, and conduit systems.
• Interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and wiring diagrams to locate equipment issues.
• Perform preventative maintenance according to published schedules and suggest improvements.
• Conduct equipment tests with ammeters, voltmeters, ohmmeters, continuity testers, feeler gauges, and frequency counters.
• Provide documentation to Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance divisions.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED; apprenticeship or Journeyman’s Certificate strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with European and/or US Electrical Codes and accepted trade practices.
• Experience reading sketches, engineering drawings, and manufacturers’ manuals.
• Knowledge of annual maintenance and load‑testing procedures for electrical and mechanical systems.
