Junior Software Engineer Internship

About the role

Smartfric (U) LTD, a growing technology company based in Kampala, Uganda, is offering an on-site internship as a Junior Software Engineer. The intern assists in designing, developing, testing and maintaining software applications under the guidance of senior engineers, with opportunities for learning, mentorship and professional growth.

Key responsibilities

• Write and review code, debug and fix issues, and take part in code reviews
• Contribute to back-end web development projects and help implement new features
• Document technical work and learn best practices in software development and object-oriented programming
• Work with the engineering team using modern tools, frameworks and development workflows

Required profile

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree or diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field
• Foundational knowledge of computer science, including algorithms, data structures and software engineering principles
• Basic experience or coursework in software development and back-end web development (APIs, databases, server-side frameworks)
• Strong problem-solving ability, attention to detail and clear written and verbal communication
• Ability to learn new technologies quickly and work well in a collaborative team

Required skills

• Programming and object-oriented programming (OOP) for clean, modular code
• Familiarity with version control systems such as Git is an added advantage
