Payroll Specialist

About the role

We are seeking a meticulous Payroll Specialist to join our HR team in Kamwokya. You will be responsible for accurate monthly payroll processing for a diverse workforce, ensuring compliance with Ugandan labor laws and supporting the finance function.

Key responsibilities

• Compute and process monthly payroll, including wages, overtime, bonuses, commissions and allowances.
• Validate payroll inputs, reconcile net pay and ensure error‑free processing.
• Manage payroll for frontline, functional staff and management.
• Calculate, deduct and remit statutory contributions such as PAYE, NSSF and withholding tax.
• Maintain employee registration with URA and NSSF and stay updated on tax regulations.
• Update and maintain payroll records, HRIS data, bank details and leave balances.
• Handle attendance records, overtime, shift work and leave exceptions.
• Generate payroll and statutory filing reports, analyse labour costs and support budgeting.
• Respond to employee inquiries on payslips, deductions and resolve payroll discrepancies.
• Provide payroll data for internal and external audits.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in HR, Accounting, Finance or related field.
• 3–4 years of hands‑on payroll processing experience, preferably for 500+ employees.
• Experience in distribution, manufacturing or fast‑paced retail environments is a plus.
• Professional HR or payroll certification is an advantage.

Required skills

• HRIS (payroll module) proficiency.
