About the role
The Intervener provides direct, individualized support to K-8 students who are deaf‑blind, working under the supervision of a certified special‑education teacher. This full‑time position ensures students can access the curriculum and participate fully in school and community activities.
Key responsibilities
- Learn and use each student’s preferred communication methods and strategies.
- Accompany and support the student during community‑based instruction and leisure activities throughout the school day.
- Provide personal care assistance, including toileting and feeding, as needed.
- Deliver specially designed instruction under the direction of the student’s special‑education teacher.
- Coordinate with the teacher to monitor and manage supplies and equipment for the deaf‑blind student.
- Assist in preparing instructional and supplementary materials.
- Participate in student assessments, IEP development, progress reporting, behavior planning, data collection, and program monitoring.
- Attend building and department staff meetings, in‑service workshops, and related professional development sessions.
Required profile
- Ability to work under the guidance and supervision of a certified special‑education teacher.
- Experience or training in supporting students with deaf‑blindness or severe sensory impairments.
- Capacity to provide personal care and support daily living activities.
- Strong collaboration skills with teachers, therapists, and other service providers.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality of student information.
