Automotive Painter

About the role

Amentum is seeking an experienced Automotive Painter to join a United States Navy program based on Diego Garcia. The role involves preparing and coating vehicle surfaces to exacting military specifications while maintaining strict safety and quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Apply primers, paints, lacquers, epoxy, and resin to contract‑unit surfaces using brushes, rollers, spray guns, and other equipment.
• Remove legacy coatings with liquid removers, scrapers, or sand/blast media.
• Prepare surfaces by sanding, steel‑wool polishing, and acid‑solution treatment to ensure adhesion and corrosion protection.
• Mask and cover areas not to be painted and stencil insignia, letters, or numerals onto vehicle surfaces.
• Follow all occupational safety and health regulations, wear required PPE, and report hazards promptly.
• Perform additional duties consistent with the position as assigned.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum three years recent experience in vehicle maintenance, surface preparation, blasting, and painting/de‑painting.
• Normal color vision and ability to pass physical fitness and respirator fit tests.
• Proficient reading, speaking, and comprehension of English.
• Valid passport (minimum one‑year validity) and ability to obtain required visas and facility credentials.

Required skills

• Spray gun operation and brush/roller painting techniques.
• Surface preparation including sandblasting, bead blasting, and acid treatment.
• Masking, covering, and stenciling of vehicle surfaces.
• Application of primers, paints, lacquers, epoxy, and resin.
