Biomedical Engineer – Emergency Response Team

About the role

The Biomedical Engineer (ERT) joins the Emergency Response Team to ensure that critical medical equipment deployed in the field operates safely and reliably. The role involves setting up, maintaining, and quality‑checking equipment, as well as training local staff and assessing health facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Define objectives and plan biomedical activities for designated health facilities.
• Monitor implementation of equipment management procedures, including installation, disposal, use, and maintenance.
• Ensure preventive and corrective maintenance, fault diagnosis, and certification of equipment.
• Manage spare‑part inventories, stock levels, and equipment exchange to minimise downtime.
• Oversee procurement quality and support biomed technicians in task completion.
• Collaborate with response leads to recruit, train, and evaluate staff involved in logistics and biomedical operations.
• Provide technical support and on‑the‑job training to medical personnel on equipment use, hygiene, and basic repairs.
• Contribute to end‑of‑mission reports with recommendations for facility improvements.

Required profile

• Proven experience in biomedical equipment installation, maintenance, and quality assurance.
• Ability to work in challenging field environments and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong organizational skills for stock management and procurement monitoring.
• Excellent communication skills for training and reporting.
