Country Director – Uganda (National Position)

About the role

Mercy Corps is seeking a visionary Country Director to lead its Uganda operations. Based in Kampala, the Director will set strategic direction, ensure impact delivery, and strengthen community resilience to conflict and climate shocks.

Key responsibilities

• Define and implement the country strategy aligned with Mercy Corps’ global impact priorities.
• Oversee program delivery across economic development, governance, conflict management, and humanitarian response.
• Manage relationships with donors, government agencies, and local partners.
• Ensure financial accountability, compliance, and risk management.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary team of staff and consultants.

Required profile

• Minimum 7 years of senior management experience in international development or humanitarian NGOs.
• Proven track record of leading large, multi‑sector programs in complex environments.
• Strong understanding of climate adaptation, financial inclusion, and refugee‑host community dynamics.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
