Database Administrator

About the role

FINCA Uganda is looking for a qualified Database Administrator to maintain, secure and optimise its database infrastructure, which underpins the organisation's core banking and reporting systems.

Key responsibilities

• Install, configure, maintain and monitor Oracle, MS‑SQL and MySQL databases.
• Implement and enforce security controls to manage database access.
• Monitor backups, logs, journals and transaction statistics to ensure data integrity.
• Manage data replication, distribution and disaster‑recovery databases.
• Allocate and monitor disk space, adjust table sizes and optimise performance.
• Develop and test backup and recovery plans in line with disaster‑recovery procedures.
• Analyse performance data, produce periodic status reports and plan capacity growth.
• Deploy and maintain data reporting systems, ETL tools and provide technical support for core banking solutions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Information Systems or a related field.
• Oracle or MS‑SQL certification preferred.
• 4‑5 years of experience as a Database Administrator in a reputable organisation.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of Oracle, MS‑SQL and MySQL databases.
• Proficiency in SQL and PL/SQL programming.
• Experience with Windows and Unix/Linux operating systems.
• Ability to design and implement backup, recovery and replication strategies.
• Familiarity with data reporting and ETL tools.
