Linux Devices Software Engineer – Industrial IoT

About the role

We are looking for a Linux Devices Software Engineer to join Canonical’s Industrial IoT team. You will work on Ubuntu‑based solutions for edge and server hardware, helping customers bring their applications to market.

Key responsibilities

• Work with the latest Linux kernel and open‑source technologies.
• Deliver Ubuntu for new IoT and server‑class hardware platforms.
• Integrate and maintain device‑oriented software stacks.
• Write high‑quality, well‑designed code and debug complex issues.
• Collaborate with globally distributed teams and provide technical leadership.
• Help customers ship their apps and SDKs on Ubuntu.
• Build device OS images using Ubuntu Core, Desktop and Server.
• Optimise the Ubuntu kernel and libraries for silicon‑specific capabilities.
• Contribute to technical documentation and share knowledge within external communities.
• Act as technical lead on complex customer engagements from cloud to edge, with occasional travel for company events.

Required profile

• Exceptional academic record from high school through university.
• Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, STEM or a compelling alternative path.
• Passion for Linux and embedded systems software.
• Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred).
• Fluency in at least one language: Golang, C, C++ or Rust.
• Professional written and spoken English.
• Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
• Result‑oriented, self‑motivated and able to travel twice a year for up to two weeks each.
