About the role
Join Canonical’s global team to work on the latest Linux kernel and open‑source technologies, delivering Ubuntu for IoT and server‑class hardware. You will help customers ship their applications and SDKs on Ubuntu while building device‑specific OS images.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and maintain device‑oriented software stacks for Ubuntu Core, Desktop and Server.
- Optimize the Ubuntu kernel and libraries for silicon‑specific capabilities.
- Debug issues, write high‑quality code, and produce technical documentation.
- Collaborate with globally distributed teams and act as a technical lead on complex customer engagements.
- Travel twice a year for company events (2‑4 weeks total).
Required profile
- Exceptional academic record from high school through university.
- Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, STEM, or a compelling alternative path.
- Passion for Linux, embedded systems, and open‑source communities.
- Professional written and spoken English.
- Willingness to travel twice a year for up to two weeks each.
Required skills
- Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred).
- Kernel and embedded systems development.
- Yocto build system.
- Programming in Golang, C, C++, or Rust.
