Maintenance Worker – Facilities & Operations

About the role

The University of Holy Cross is looking for a dependable Maintenance Worker to join its Facilities & Operations team. This full‑time, on‑site role ensures that campus buildings, equipment, and grounds remain safe, functional, and welcoming for the university community.

Key responsibilities

• Perform general maintenance and repairs on campus facilities, including painting, carpentry, plumbing, and basic construction projects.
• Troubleshoot and fix equipment, fixtures, walls, doors, and other building components.
• Assist with moving furniture, equipment, and supplies for events and daily operations.
• Conduct routine inspections of buildings, grounds, and equipment, and report safety concerns.
• Maintain campus grounds, remove trash and debris, and support outdoor maintenance projects.
• Follow University policies, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Facilities Supervisor.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2–5 years of facilities or building maintenance experience preferred.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong problem‑solving, time‑management, and safety‑orientation.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lb unaided, 100 lb with assistance, and work in confined or elevated spaces.

Required skills

• Proficiency with hand tools and power tools.
• Basic knowledge of plumbing, painting, carpentry, and general building maintenance.
• Ability to read and follow work orders, safety procedures, and operational instructions.
