Portfolio Manager – Credit Card

About the role

Absa is seeking a Portfolio Manager to lead the end‑to‑end performance of its credit‑card business. You will be responsible for driving acquisition, activation, spend, profitability and customer engagement while ensuring compliance with regulatory, policy and card‑scheme requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute growth strategies to increase card acquisition, usage and portfolio profitability.
• Achieve revenue targets by optimising interchange income, interest earnings, annual fees and other card‑related streams.
• Lead customer acquisition, activation and usage campaigns in partnership with sales and cross‑functional teams.
• Oversee product lifecycle management, including launches, enhancements, pricing reviews and portfolio refreshes.
• Conduct competitor benchmarking and market analysis to keep offerings industry‑leading.
• Champion a customer‑centric journey across acquisition, onboarding, activation, usage and retention.
• Monitor portfolio profitability, return on assets and overall performance to ensure sustainable growth.

Required profile

• Proven experience in credit‑card portfolio management or a similar banking product line.
• Strong analytical mindset with ability to interpret portfolio data and drive actionable insights.
• Excellent understanding of card‑scheme (Visa/Mastercard) regulations and compliance requirements.
• Ability to collaborate with cross‑functional teams and influence senior stakeholders.
