About the role
The SBCC Gender and Protection Officer will provide technical support to the WFP Integrated Program in Rwamwanja, mainstreaming gender, protection and disability across all activities. The role ensures evidence‑based interventions through operational research, capacity building and the design of social behaviour change communication (SBCC) strategies.
Key responsibilities
- Design and implement SBCC strategies in collaboration with MEAL, Livelihoods, Environment and Gender sectors.
- Conduct operational research and qualitative surveys to generate evidence for gender, protection and disability interventions.
- Lead capacity‑building activities for project staff, community structures, health workers and religious leaders.
- Develop and disseminate gender‑sensitive IEC materials and ensure accessibility for persons with disabilities.
- Provide mentorship and technical support to Protection and Gender Assistants and partner staff.
- Coordinate with zonal and sector‑specific working groups, and represent the project in advocacy forums.
- Monitor and report on programme progress, prepare donor reports and document success stories.
- Conduct gender, protection and disability inclusion assessments and support budgeting and programme design.
Required profile
- Minimum three years of experience working with communities on development or humanitarian projects.
- University degree in Nutrition, Communications, Public Health, Social Sciences, Social Work, Human Rights or related field.
- Proven ability to engage beneficiary communities, government officials and district‑level stakeholders.
- Knowledge of livelihoods, health, education and behavioural change communication.
- Experience in developing and implementing behavioural change communications and in partnership management between international NGOs and local partners.
