Tax & AP Accountant

About the role

The Tax & AP Accountant is a core member of d.light Uganda’s finance team, responsible for ensuring full compliance with local tax regulations and statutory requirements while supporting accounts payable processes. This role safeguards the organization against tax risks and contributes to the company’s mission of transforming lives.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, submit and reconcile statutory tax filings, including VAT, corporate income tax, PAYE and other obligations.
• Maintain compliance with Ugandan tax laws and proactively address potential tax risks.
• Prepare tax schedules and ensure accurate tax provisions in financial statements.
• Provide tax advisory on business transactions, cross‑border deals and capital expenditures.
• Advise on indirect tax implications, ensuring VAT and withholding tax compliance.
• Support tax audits, respond to queries from tax authorities and maintain documentation.
• Monitor legislative changes and recommend actions to keep the company’s tax position compliant.
• Collaborate on developing and refining tax‑related internal controls and processes.
• Assist with vendor invoice processing, withholding tax compliance, and reconciliation of vendor balances.
• Review staff retirements, expense reports and assess tax deductibility.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of Ugandan tax legislation and compliance requirements.
• Ability to work closely with the Finance Controller and Group Tax Manager on tax provisions and controls.
• Experience handling tax audits and liaising with tax authorities.
