About the role
The Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania seeks a tenure‑track Assistant Professor in Media Industry Studies to begin in the fall semester of 2027. The position combines research, teaching, and mentorship within a vibrant graduate and undergraduate community.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and deliver graduate and undergraduate courses on media industries, policy, political economy, advertising, and surveillance.
- Mentor doctoral students and contribute to the Master of Communication and Media Industries (MCMI) program.
- Maintain an active research agenda that produces high‑quality publications and secures external funding.
- Participate in departmental service, including faculty committees and academic events.
Required profile
- Ph.D. in communication, media studies, behavioral social sciences, economics, or a closely related field by the start date.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching and a strong publication record indicating potential for leading scholarship.
- Expertise in critical approaches to media industries and an understanding of their structural, economic, technological, legal, and socio‑cultural dimensions.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in research and pedagogy.
