Adolescents' Skills Development Officer – Uganda

About the role

The Adolescents' Skills Development Officer will support UNICEF’s Basic Education and Adolescent Development (BEAD) programme in Uganda. Working closely with the Ministry of Education and Sports, the officer will help expand access to 21st‑century skills training for marginalized youth and address the high NEET rates.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement transferable‑skills training initiatives for adolescents aged 10‑19 within formal and non‑formal education settings.
• Collect and analyse field‑level evidence to inform evidence‑based policies and programmes.
• Collaborate with UN agencies, donors, NGOs, and government partners to ensure coordinated delivery of skills development activities.
• Monitor progress against age‑appropriate learning outcomes and report findings to programme managers.
• Support the development of innovative approaches to reduce skills mismatch and improve youth employability.

Required profile

• Minimum two years of professional experience in adolescent development, education programmes, or related fields.
• Strong understanding of the Ugandan education context and challenges faced by NEET youth.
• Excellent analytical, reporting, and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
• Ability to work in a multicultural environment and travel within Uganda as needed.
