Assistant Underwriting Officer

About the role

The African Reinsurance Corporation is seeking an Assistant Underwriting Officer to support its underwriting and business development activities in the Ugandan market. Reporting to the Assistant Director – Underwriting & Marketing, the role combines portfolio administration, client relationship management and compliance responsibilities.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in acquiring, assessing and onboarding cedents, brokers and other partners while ensuring KYC and regulatory compliance.
• Review and underwrite facultative reinsurance submissions, conduct risk assessments, price risks, prepare quotations and negotiate terms.
• Support treaty underwriting and renewal processes, including data validation, quotation preparation and renewal analysis.
• Monitor bound business to ensure timely receipt of reinsurance slips, premium closings and related documentation.
• Maintain strong relationships with brokers and cedents to drive portfolio growth and retention.

Required profile

• Minimum five years of underwriting experience, preferably in reinsurance or insurance.
• Strong understanding of facultative and treaty reinsurance principles.
• Knowledge of KYC, regulatory requirements and client onboarding procedures.
• Excellent analytical, negotiation and communication skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, actuarial science or a related field.
