Business Development Officer – Broking

About the role

The Business Development Officer – Broking will drive profitable growth through the broking channel by building and managing relationships with insurance brokers, acquiring new business, and retaining existing portfolios. The role is accountable for meeting agreed gross written premium (GWP), revenue, retention, premium‑collection and profitability targets while upholding high standards of service and compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute business‑development initiatives for the broking channel in line with targets.
• Identify, engage and onboard new brokers, ensuring regulatory and internal compliance.
• Generate new business from existing and prospective brokers and maintain a healthy opportunity pipeline.
• Promote cross‑selling across Motor, Medical, Property, Marine, Engineering, Liability, Travel and other classes.
• Conduct regular broker visits, engagement meetings and performance reviews.
• Manage broker enquiries, concerns and service expectations through to resolution.
• Maintain an accurate renewal pipeline and coordinate early engagement on upcoming renewals.
• Collaborate with Underwriting, Claims, Finance, Credit Control, Operations and Marketing to deliver timely solutions.
• Prepare channel‑performance, pipeline and premium‑collection reports for management.
• Ensure broker licences are valid and all activities comply with IRA requirements and internal policies.

Required profile

• Proven experience in business development and broker relationship management within the insurance sector.
• Track record of meeting GWP, revenue, retention and profitability targets.
• Strong analytical skills to assess cancellation, retention and loss‑account trends.
• Ability to coordinate across underwriting, claims, finance and operations teams.
