Central Cash & Clearing Officer

About the role

The Central Cash/Clearing Officer will support efficient, controlled and client‑focused clearing, cash, posting and validation services for Standard Chartered in Uganda. The role contributes to service quality, operational risk standards and regulatory compliance while upholding the bank’s values.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and support clearing, central cash, posting and validation operations across the bank.
• Process, validate, reconcile and monitor clearing transactions, customer cheques, electronic funds transfers and internal entries in line with procedures and regulations.
• Ensure timely settlement of inbound and outbound clearing transactions and perform daily account reconciliations.
• Review exceptions or irregular cases and contribute to process improvement, automation and cost‑efficiency initiatives.
• Identify, escalate and help resolve operational risk, conduct and compliance matters.
• Engage with internal teams, auditors, regulators and other banks represented in the clearing house.
• For manager‑level roles, provide day‑to‑day leadership, team development and performance monitoring.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field; professional qualifications (e.g., ACIB, Chartered Banker, ACCA, CPA, CIA) are a plus.
• Experience in banking operations, preferably in clearing, cash operations, posting, validation, reconciliation or transaction processing.
• Strong understanding of banking products, customer mandates, operational procedures and service standards.
• Good knowledge of operational risk, governance, controls, compliance and regulatory expectations.
