Commis 3 – Kitchen Assistant

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Kitchen Commis to join our culinary team at Marriott International in Kampala. The role involves supporting chefs by preparing ingredients, cooking, and maintaining a clean, safe kitchen environment.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare ingredients: portion, chop, wash, peel, weigh, measure and mix according to recipes.
• Cook and assemble dishes, including cold foods, while adhering to quality and presentation standards.
• Operate kitchen equipment such as ovens, stoves, grills, microwaves and fryers safely.
• Monitor food temperatures, test doneness, and ensure food safety throughout preparation.
• Set up and break down work stations, serve food in proper portions, and maintain cleanliness of the kitchen, tools and equipment.
• Follow company safety policies, report incidents, and complete required safety training.

Required profile

• High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
• At least one year of experience in a similar food‑preparation or kitchen role.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend and lift objects up to 25 lb for an entire shift.
• Professional appearance and strong communication skills.

Required skills

• Food preparation and ingredient handling.
• Operating ovens, stoves, grills, microwaves and fryers.
• Measuring, mixing and portioning ingredients accurately.
