Community Engagement Coordinator

About the role

The Community Engagement Coordinator will work closely with the Rights & Communities Manager to deliver community‑focused conservation initiatives around Ishasha in the Queen Elizabeth Protected Area. The role involves extensive travel to remote villages, building trust with local residents, and ensuring that park activities align with community needs and social safeguards.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and implement community engagement activities in line with the community conservation and social safeguards plans.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with community groups, civil society organisations, and local stakeholders.
• Facilitate inclusive participation of women, youth and vulnerable groups in park programmes.
• Lead community consultations and support grievance redress mechanisms.
• Assist in human‑wildlife conflict mitigation through community‑based approaches.
• Represent community interests to park management and partner organisations.
• Monitor and evaluate the impact of engagement activities, adjusting strategies as needed.
• Provide training and capacity‑building for community institutions, including revenue‑sharing initiatives.
• Implement incentive programmes such as wildlife scholarships, ensuring transparent selection.
• Conduct socio‑economic research and monitoring as required.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in social, rural or environmental sciences (Master’s preferred).
• Minimum five years of experience working with rural or remote communities in social mobilisation, community engagement or awareness campaigns.
• Proven experience applying participatory methods and monitoring & evaluation of community programmes.
