Construction Supervisor

About the role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking a Construction Supervisor to support a six‑month emergency protection project in several settlements across Uganda. The role provides day‑to‑day technical, structural, and administrative engineering support for shelter, infrastructure, water and sanitation (WASH) facilities, ensuring all civil works meet IRC standards and project designs.

Key responsibilities

• Review and validate technical designs, blueprints, and Bills of Quantities (BoQs) for civil works.
• Provide technical guidance to procurement processes, including tendering, contractor pre‑qualification, and contract management.
• Advise on alternative construction methods, techniques, and materials when required.
• Prepare and submit site inspection, progress, quality, and risk assessment reports within two days of each inspection.
• Guide the process of obtaining building occupancy permits.
• Oversee construction activities to ensure compliance with approved designs, quality standards, safety regulations, and timelines.
• Supervise daily performance of contractors, casual workers, masons, and community groups.
• Provide technical expertise to local communities, government agencies, and other stakeholders.

Required profile

• Ability to ensure civil work complies with engineering standards, schedules, and project designs.
• Capability to prepare timely technical reports to support management decision‑making.
• Experience coordinating with supply‑chain, field management, and local stakeholders.
