Coordination and Normative Consultant

About the role

The Coordination and Normative Consultant will provide strategic and technical leadership to advance UN Women’s gender coordination and normative mandates in Uganda. Reporting to the Country Representative and working closely with the Deputy Representative, the consultant will support inter‑governmental engagement, partnership development, and accountability mechanisms across the United Nations system and the broader development landscape.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical and strategic support to advance UN Women’s gender coordination and normative mandate, including the preparation of strategic briefs, concept notes, position papers and other technical products.
• Lead and coordinate Uganda Country Office engagement in intergovernmental and multi‑stakeholder processes such as CEDAW, Beijing+30, Universal Periodic Review, Commission on the Status of Women and SDG reporting.
• Advise UN Country Team and UN Area Coordination on human‑rights treaty‑body mechanisms, special procedures and other accountability frameworks to strengthen gender‑responsive initiatives.
• Coordinate UNCT reports, normative assessments and joint accountability mechanisms, identifying opportunities for collective action and policy influence.
• Facilitate capacity‑strengthening initiatives for government institutions, civil society, implementing partners and UN stakeholders to enhance gender integration and implementation of gender‑responsive commitments.
• Develop and manage strategic partnerships with government, civil society, regional bodies and development partners to promote the localisation and implementation of international GEWE norms, standards and recommendations.
• Contribute to resource mobilisation, partnership development and strategic representation efforts in support of the Uganda Country Office’s normative and coordination agenda.
