Credit Officer – FinTech

About the role

Waako Credit Uganda is seeking a motivated Credit Officer to join its fast‑growing FinTech team in Kampala. You will play a key role in expanding the digital loan portfolio by acquiring new clients, assessing credit risk, and ensuring timely loan disbursements and repayments.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and recruit new clients through digital channels, referrals, and field activities.
• Receive, review, and process loan applications using the company’s digital lending platform.
• Conduct thorough KYC, credit assessment, verification, and due‑diligence on applicants.
• Verify employment, business information, guarantors, collateral and other documentation.
• Prepare accurate credit assessments and recommend approval or rejection.
• Follow up with clients throughout the application, disbursement, and repayment cycle.
• Monitor loan repayments, chase overdue accounts and report any fraud or inconsistencies.
• Maintain up‑to‑date client and loan records in the system.
• Meet monthly targets for client acquisition, loan applications, disbursements and collections.
• Collaborate with Operations, Verification, Collections and Management teams to improve portfolio performance.

Required profile

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics or a related field.
• Entry‑level experience (up to 2 years) in micro‑finance, digital lending, banking or credit is an advantage.
• Strong sales and business development orientation.
• Good understanding of credit assessment and loan processes.
• Excellent communication, negotiation and customer service abilities.
• High integrity, confidentiality and ability to work independently in a fast‑paced environment.
