Data Engineer – VENN Department

About the role

The Data Engineer will join the VENN department, reporting to the Senior Data Scientist. The role focuses on building and maintaining the data infrastructure that powers program analytics, machine‑learning platforms, and field evaluation tools for Raising The Village.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver batch and streaming data pipelines that ingest data from SurveyCTO, ArcGIS and custom mobile apps into the Databricks warehouse.
• Implement ELT and ETL workflows using PySpark and Databricks SQL, applying Medallion Architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold) to create clean, versioned data layers.
• Maintain data quality, observability frameworks and monitoring systems.
• Integrate structured field data with AI model outputs and support ML infrastructure.
• Collaborate in sprint‑based development cycles and contribute to the fast‑moving infrastructure roadmap.

Required profile

• 1‑3 years of data engineering experience (entry level).
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment.
• Willingness to travel up to 20% within Uganda.
• Based in Uganda (Kamwokya or nearby).
