Director of Communications

About the role

Onebrief is seeking a Director of Communications to lead an integrated communications strategy that advances its policy, congressional and reputational objectives. Reporting to the Vice President of External Affairs, you will translate complex defense‑related issues into clear narratives for policymakers, journalists and other stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute integrated communications strategies aligned with organizational priorities.
• Lead proactive and reactive media engagement, identifying emerging issues and shaping public debate.
• Collaborate with government relations, legal, marketing and senior leadership to craft compelling messaging.
• Oversee creation, approval and distribution of external materials such as press releases, op‑eds and digital content.
• Direct rapid‑response communications during crises, ensuring alignment with reputational goals.
• Build, mentor and manage a high‑performing communications team.

Required profile

• 10+ years of experience in strategic, executive or public communications.
• Proven ability to work quickly under tight deadlines and manage high‑visibility issues.
• Strong strategic judgment and sophisticated media instincts.
• Experience partnering with senior leaders and external affairs functions.
