Driver/Operator – Firefighting Apparatus

About the role

The Driver/Operator will be a fully trained member of the firefighting team supporting a US Navy program on Diego Garcia. You will operate fire‑fighting apparatus, ensure its readiness, and respond to emergencies in accordance with US, Air Force and PWS requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Safely drive firefighting apparatus to and from fire or emergency scenes, complying with all laws and regulations.
• Operate pumps, power units and other mechanical equipment on the apparatus.
• Maintain inventory of tools and equipment, perform post‑incident checks and weekly inspections.
• Clean, service and perform routine maintenance on the apparatus, reporting any mechanical issues.
• Document and report all activities as directed by program and site leadership.

Required profile

• Minimum three (3) years of experience, preferably at a US Military Installation (Air Force preferred).
• Strong organizational, time‑management and customer‑service abilities.
• Experience working in austere OCONUS environments with multinational crews.
• Ability to pass and maintain contract medical requirements throughout deployment.
• Valid driver’s license, passport (minimum one‑year validity) and any required country visas.
• Proficiency in English (reading, speaking, comprehension).

Required skills

• Operation of ARFF (Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting) and pumper apparatus.
• Firefighter I & II certifications.
• Airport Firefighter qualification.
• HAZMAT operations knowledge.
• Telecommunicator I & II certification.
• Basic computer operation skills.
