Forester – Clonal Nursery, Seedling Nursery & Plantation Establishment

About the role

The Forester will lead the planning, establishment and management of a commercial eucalyptus clonal nursery, a conventional tree seedling nursery and forest plantations in Nakaseke District, Uganda. Reporting to the Managing Director, the role combines technical forestry expertise with team leadership to deliver high‑quality planting material and productive forest stands.

Key responsibilities

• Design, establish and operate commercial eucalyptus clonal and conventional seedling nurseries.
• Develop and implement forest management plans that meet organisational and sustainability objectives.
• Plan, coordinate and supervise silvicultural activities such as site preparation, planting, weeding, pruning, pest and disease control and stand maintenance.
• Lead plantation establishment ensuring compliance with technical specifications and operational standards.
• Prepare annual operational plans, work schedules and budgets, and monitor expenditures.
• Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate nursery and plantation staff, fostering safety and productivity.
• Collect, analyse and report performance data for nurseries and plantations.
• Ensure compliance with Ugandan forestry regulations, environmental standards and occupational health and safety requirements.
• Promote sustainable forest management practices and environmental stewardship.
• Collaborate with senior management and stakeholders to achieve production, quality and development targets.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Natural Resource Management, Agroforestry or a related field.
• At least five years (60 months) of experience in forestry nursery operations, plantation establishment or silviculture.
• Proven ability to manage teams and oversee large‑scale forest projects.
