Full-Time Driver for Hospital Transport

About the role

The hospital requires a reliable driver to provide safe transport of staff, patients, and supplies while maintaining the fleet according to hospital standards.

Key responsibilities

• Provide transportation of goods, staff and authorized passengers using hospital vehicles in compliance with policies.
• Drive safely, adhering to local traffic laws and hospital regulations, ensuring punctuality for visitors, co‑workers and patients.
• Maintain vehicle logs, renew licences and insurance, and keep accurate records of mileage and repairs.
• Perform regular vehicle inspections, basic maintenance checks (oil, water, battery, brakes, tyres) and arrange timely repairs at authorized workshops.
• Secure vehicles against theft, lock doors, park in safe locations and ensure vehicles are clean and tidy.
• Participate in hospital spiritual ministry programmes, attend chapel and departmental bible studies as scheduled.

Required profile

• Uganda Certificate of Education with pass in English; a logistics or motor vehicle mechanic certificate is an advantage.
• Valid driving permit (C1, C, D1, D) and at least 3‑5 years of clean driving experience in an NGO or healthcare setting.
• Good knowledge of traffic rules, ability to think clearly in emergencies and strong communication skills.
• Willingness to work odd hours, stay overnight for outreach or airport pickups, and perform other duties as assigned.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Basic mechanical knowledge for vehicle maintenance and repairs.
• Ability to read road maps and follow directions.
