Head Of Custody

About the role

The Head of Custody will lead DFCU Bank's custody and securities operations, ensuring safe asset handling, efficient settlement, and regulatory compliance. Reporting to senior management, this role drives operational excellence and strengthens relationships with institutional clients.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee custody operations including safekeeping, settlement, corporate actions, income collection, and client onboarding.
• Develop and implement operational controls, risk‑management frameworks, and compliance programmes.
• Manage relationships with institutional investors, fund managers, pension funds, insurers, brokers, regulators and market infrastructure providers.
• Lead and develop high‑performing teams to deliver service excellence in a regulated environment.
• Ensure adherence to Bank of Uganda, Capital Markets Authority, AML and other relevant regulatory requirements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Accounting, Law or related field.
• Minimum 10 years’ experience in banking, financial services or capital markets, with at least 5 years in senior management of custody or securities services.
• Proven track record in operational risk management, internal controls and governance.
• Strong strategic thinking, business development and stakeholder engagement abilities.

Required skills

• CISI, CFA, ACCA, CPA or ACT professional qualifications.
• Expertise with custody systems and SWIFT messaging.
• Knowledge of securities settlement infrastructure and digital innovations in securities services.
• Familiarity with Bank of Uganda regulations, Capital Markets Authority requirements and AML compliance.
