Head of Debt Collections

About the role

The Head of Debt Collections will lead Majibu Africa’s debt recovery function, shaping strategy and driving performance across both field and office teams. This senior position reports to senior management and is responsible for maximizing recoveries while maintaining high ethical standards.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a comprehensive debt collection strategy, setting objectives and recovery standards.
• Oversee daily collection activities, ensuring timely follow‑up on overdue accounts and proper portfolio allocation.
• Monitor performance metrics, conduct regular reviews, and prepare recovery reports for executive leadership.
• Lead, coach, and mentor a large collections team, fostering a results‑driven culture and ensuring compliance with policies.
• Analyze difficult and high‑value accounts, recommending appropriate recovery actions and policy improvements.
• Benchmark collection performance against industry best practices and drive continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or a related field.
• Minimum 2 years of progressive experience in debt collections, credit management, or financial recovery.
• At least 3 years in a senior supervisory or management role, managing large teams and portfolios.
• Proven ability to develop collection strategies and improve recovery performance.
• Experience in the finance, fintech, or banking sector is preferred.
