Head of Flight Operations - Uganda

About the role

Take to the skies with purpose as the Head of Flight Operations for MAF in Uganda, leading a multi‑national operation that supports humanitarian missions across Uganda and South Sudan. You will oversee regulatory compliance, safety, and coordination of flight, maintenance and programme teams to ensure safe and effective delivery of life‑saving aviation services.

Key responsibilities

• Act as primary liaison with the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) to ensure compliance with ICAO standards and MAF procedures.
• Oversee day‑to‑day flight operations including flight planning, dispatch, technical documentation and contingency planning.
• Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team, managing staffing, competency assessments and professional development.
• Champion the Safety Management System (SMS) together with the Safety Manager, addressing risk mitigation and crew‑fatigue management.
• Coordinate with Maintenance, Flight Crew and Country Directors to align aircraft availability with humanitarian needs.
• Manage the operational budget and supervise the maintenance and development of remote airstrips.

Required profile

• Hold an ICAO Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL); the licence does not need to be current.
• Minimum three years of experience in flight operations management or an equivalent leadership role.
• Demonstrated knowledge of UCAA regulations, ICAO standards and SMS principles within a humanitarian aviation context.
