Head of Risk & Compliance

About the role

Eversend is building an all‑in‑one financial platform for African markets. As Head of Risk & Compliance you will design, implement and run the risk framework that keeps the business within regulatory limits while supporting product innovation and commercial growth.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain the enterprise risk framework, including risk appetite, risk register and control reporting to senior management and the Board.
• Oversee regulatory compliance by tracking obligations, interpreting changes and translating them into operational policies.
• Lead financial‑crime controls – AML/CFT, KYC, sanctions and PEP screening, transaction monitoring, investigations and SAR filing.
• Assess product, partner and market launches for risk and ensure mitigations are in place.
• Drive compliance monitoring, incident response, remediation and regulator engagement.
• Use data and automation to improve control effectiveness and build scalable evidence standards across markets.

Required profile

• Hands‑on experience operating risk or compliance in a bank, payments firm or other regulated financial institution.
• Direct experience managing AML/CFT, KYC, sanctions screening, transaction monitoring and investigations.
• Proven ability to build an enterprise risk framework and turn regulatory requirements into practical controls.
• Independent judgment with confidence to challenge senior decisions under commercial pressure.
• Automation‑first mindset, leveraging data, systems and engineering support before adding headcount.
