Lecturer (Microbiology) - Full Time

About the role

Uganda Christian University is recruiting a full-time Lecturer in Microbiology for its Medical School in Kampala. The lecturer takes part in teaching and supervising medical students, contributes to the curriculum, carries out research and publishes, and supports the university's academic and research activities.

Key responsibilities

• Take part in course administration and instruction for the Medical School curriculum, and develop an integrated curriculum blending science and clinical concepts with colleagues from other disciplines.
• Teach using case-based instruction, group discussions, lectures, demonstrations, simulations, team-based learning and distance education.
• Assess medical students through formative and summative assessments and give them individual support, feedback and advice.
• Work with course and curriculum committees, fellow faculty and administrators to achieve the curriculum's goals.
• Supervise student Microbiology sessions, treatment plans and competences, and act as clinical academic advisor and/or undergraduate Microbiology portfolio supervisor as requested by the Head of Department.
• Engage in research in microbiology or a related field, attend and present at meetings, and publish original material such as reviews, case studies and research results.
• Provide continuing professional development in Microbiology.

Required profile

• Masters of Medicine in Microbiology from a recognised institution of higher learning.
• Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery or Bachelor of Dental Surgery from a recognised institution.
• University teaching experience as Lecturer or Assistant Lecturer for at least two years, or as Tutorial Assistant for at least three years.
• At least one scholarly article or publication, or one research project or paper.
• Registered or eligible for full registration with the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners' Council.
• Commitment to medical research, high integrity, and a committed and practicing Christian.
